A Saturday Morning at Anaina Hou Farmers Market
Savouring Kaua‘i – local flavors, spirited stories, and market treasures
I love my Saturday adventures to the Anaina Hou Farmers Market in Kīlauea—a true island gem that embodies the spirit of Kaua‘i. Every day of the week, this island offers its own farmers market experience, and this Saturday gathering is no exception.
With over 30 amazing vendors spread across two marketplaces, this event is a vibrant celebration of local agriculture, sustainable food distribution, and the creative heart of our community. It’s a space where kauai-grown produce meets small-batch artisanship—and you feel it in every bite, sip, and smile.

A Market for All Ages
What I love most about this market is how family-friendly and thoughtfully designed it is. There's:
A spacious playground for the keiki (children)
Food trucks with delicious local eats
Putt-putt golf
And stalls bursting with handpicked produce and handcrafted goods
It's more than a shopping trip — it’s a cultural experience, woven together by community pride and island energy.
What I Found
During one of my visits, I came home with:
Fresh-pressed sugar cane juice
A jar of Anahola Royal Honey
And a bag of fragrant, zesty calamansi fruit
If you’ve never tried calamansi before, here’s why it’s a flavor worth exploring:
🟢 What is Calamansi?
A small citrus fruit with the tartness of a lime and a hint of orange sweetness. It’s a favorite across Southeast Asia and the Philippines, and here on Kaua‘i, it shines in marinades, dipping sauces, dressings, desserts—and even tropical cocktails.
It’s vibrant, versatile, and absolutely worth seeking out if you spot it at your local market.
Inspired to Mix: The Tropical Fusion Cocktail
Inspired by the ingredients in my basket, I created a refreshing cocktail that blends citrus brightness with a gentle hint of Hawaiian rum. I call it The Tropical Fusion—made with calamansi, fresh juice, and a splash of rum to cool down the warmest Kaua‘i afternoon.
Why This Market Matters
Markets like Anaina Hou are more than a place to shop—they’re where the island gathers. Supporting local growers, makers, and artisans isn’t just about sustainability—it’s about staying connected to the ʻāina, to one another, and to the flavors that define our island.
Whether you’re visiting, relocating, or lucky enough to call Kaua‘i home, I hope you take time to explore one of these beautiful markets. It’s where stories and recipes begin.
